Ranging in date from 1848 to 1986, the Congregational Church Collection is an artificial collection of correspondence, printed materials, financial records, meetings minutes, and assorted materials created by Congregational churches and related associations in Oregon and compiled by the Oregon Historical Society. The bulk of the 1.5 cubic feet of the collection consists of printed material such as church bulletins, resolutions, constitutions, brochures, sermons, clippings, and event programs from various Congregational churches and associations, notably the First Congregational Church of Portland, Oregon City's First Congregational Church, the Congregational Conference of Oregon, the Congregational Home Missionary Society, and the Portland Local Association of Congregational Churches and Ministers. The collection also includes microfilmed records from the First Congregational Church of The Dalles. Individuals significant to Oregon's Congregational churches documented in the archive include George Henry Atkinson, George H. Himes, Plutarch Stewart Knight, and William Alfred Tenney.

George H. Atkinson, a Congregational minister in the Pacific Northwest, graduated from Dartmouth College in 1843 and from Andover Theological Seminary in 1846. Unable to accept an appointment to a mission in Africa because he had not yet been ordained, he sailed to Oregon by way of Hawaii with his wife, arriving in 1848.
